opening scene process and evaluation

The plan for the opening scene was to create a scene inspired by Edgar Wright's Shaun Of The Dead/Hot Fuzz style quick edit montage.

I decided to use over exaggerated sounds for these shots to fit within the Edgar Wright style I was going for.

For the game cover I used Photoshop.

Originally, the cover was going to be a mix of all three scenes, but then I changed it to make it more Planet Games orientated and to include the spaceship so it links to Planet Games.

I am happy with the cover, but due to the quick edit style I chose, you can only see it for a very short time. I considered a way of overcoming this problem by having a pause between the first and second shot, but it would interrupt the flow of the shot, so I stuck with the Edgar Wright style.

I decided to use Planet Games' website to give the viewer an idea of where the advert is going and the purpose.
I used a copyright free TV interference effect for this shot
I imported this clip into After Effects to add a TV interference effect to my hands having already created multiple layers of the video clip. My hands are on a separate layer to the rest of the footage and then sandwiched in between the background and the foreground. I had to separate the layers frame-by-frame.

Using After Effects I had a background layer with just the computer and the interference effect screen without me in shot, then I overlapped a cut out of myself from the prior shot and added position and scale keyframes and minimised the shot until it was too small to see in the centre of the interference screen giving the impression of warping.

Similar to how I did the interference effect, I just added a scaled keyframe to give the illusion of zooming in. I got the vortex effect from youtube (copyright free)

I am happy with the way this scene turned out. The only thing I would improve, given the opportunity, I would increase the brightness of the shot where the disk is inserted in the tray.  But overall, I'm really happy.
