construction toy

i-Learn-It
My idea
is a kit to help children learn the basics of a motherboard and to build a PC. The motherboard will be working and running Linux. The product will be made out of static-less plastic. When you put it together correctly and turn it on it boots up a basic version of Linux to help children then learn coding. The pieces will be brightly coloured, colour-coded, and labelled.  It plugs into a TV via HDMI. It will retail for £150. QWERTY keyboard is included.

Slice & Dice (ninja spider comic)

The story starts out with a spider spinning his web carrying out his daily routine then one day he catches a fly that turns out to be a criminal mastermind. The spider returns from retirement and puts on his mask to face up to the fly's minions who are threatening him. It will end with the spider faking his death to return back to retirement.

The fly mastermind is a fat fly who wears a medallion and wears a baseball cap sideways. Likes to consider himself a "gangstar"

Popcorn animation evaluation

I think the animation could be improved. If I had more time I would link the buttons to the home screen and each slide. I would polish the movement for the steam engine and the heating up of the popcorn.

I would take inspiration from this gif I found it here. I would have a blueprint design for a steam engine with each moving part inside animated realistically. I simply did not have enough time to carry this out so I had to shortcut my design to have at least a finished product.

If I was going to do this project again I would perfect my time management skills within the blogs and the animation.

I would also link in "How popcorn pops" within the whole animation.

In the "How to make popcorn" animation, I like how the explosion effect consumes the screen the minimises to reveal the popcorn rather than the kernel that was there before.

indesign

The video was about using transparency effects. Using the tutorial I adjusted the transparency settings. I have used Indesign before, so I know how it works but I have not used this technique before.

To produce live corners in InDesign
Draw a rectangle/shape using  the rectangle tool

Then you click on the single yellow dot and there should be a yellow dot in each and drag sideways to curve the corners collectively
To curve the corners individually you hold shift (Mac)

...and you should have something like this.

Creative Media options

I really like filming and making the movie for the end of term brief. I like this because you can interpret the brief in your own way. I like the creative aspects too - such as developing skills in editing and using the various computer programs.

Film editor, film animator, film director

3 things needed to get on to level 3

More written explanations
Pay more attention to the brief

Comic analysis

Comic books tell a story through pictures rather than words, for example a book gives an establishing paragraph to set the scene. Meanwhile the pictures explain what’s going on. To explain clearly and simply what’s going on through pictures.

Comics usually tell a story with pictures rather than words

A frame within a comic strip is a box with relevant drawing or images to explain the story, usually instead of description

What is visual storytelling/imagery?

visual storytelling could be an action sequence with lots of fast shot that could not be represented as well through words

What is an ‘eye path’?

(The eye path may vary depending on the country of the comic/graphic novel or page For example in Japan they read from right to left and also up and down.)

Star wars comic

I would use the Star Wars layout. This layout is clear, bold, and easy to follow. The eye path is easy to follow. The box panels are bigger so you can put more detail into the images. I think that the inner monologue boxes take away from the focus of the images, but they work well with the eye path, for example, one box is at the top and the next one is sightly below and the next one is at the bottom where it's working it's way down.

There are minimal speech bubbles in this scene. Starkiller is a Sith apprentice of Darth Vader, and in this scene he kills a rancor while hunting down Maris Brood who uses the dark side to blend into her surroundings.

The Walking Dead comic has a clear eyepath, the boxes are big and bold. The page is spacious and easy to look at. I like the layout of this comic. The things I don't like are that while it's spacious it doesn't have a lot of content. The artwork is simplistic and shows the characters clearly, but the realism in the art style is lacking.

Day in the life of Darth Vader

I spent the night working...in fact, I never stop working. It's a very time-consuming job capturing planets and killing rebel scum. At home I like to settle down, put on Eastenders and have a cup of tea. Some days I even walk my dewback around Tattooine. Other days I take a walk around Bath. I like the historical scenery and going in fancy dress shops.

I went into Bath and took some photos that would fit within my idea of Day In The Life writing. I then imported them into Indesign. I'm not overly happy with the outcome. I think that if I had more resources to work with and more quality, relevant photos, I think there would be a more professional outcome. I imported the photos into Indesign, arranged the text and imported the gibberish and my piece of writing. I changed the font and the size of my writing so it would stand out from the text of the other writing which was not so important.

Graphic novels and comics

Graphic novels are a collection of comic issues that tend to be a story that is more visual than a book that tell a story using pictures rather than word.

a magazine is based on a specific subject or genre such as Dr Who magazine or X-Box magazine

Comics are either aimed at the young audience or individual issues of a series. The younger audience for comics tend to include puzzles, games, fun facts, and a comic strip. Where as the other form of comic can be a story arc that expands over several issues.

Marvel: Civil War

I like the format of each page, it is box format with no diagonal frame boxes. This gives it more structure, less complex and less cluttered structure. I like the artwork, it's realistic enough to represent the believable aspects but it can be too realistic, which would take away the comic aspects of the graphic novel. I like how it represent how comics have evolved over the yeas, the style is very different to the 60's comics which were more cartoonish. This is much more modern. I dislike that this graphic novel doesn't have the whole story. There are several different spinoffs that revolve around this core story.

I think this quote is good because it is a pivotal moment in the story and it's a powerful and interesting quote.
Here is an example

treatment AG.EN.T (silent film)

Title - AG.EN.T (silent film)

Log line - A Russian spy goes to a park bench and tries to do a deal with a suitcase but it turns out he went to the wrong park bench

SynopsisThe year is 1938. England is on the brink of war. A document with top secret files is about to change hands, then events occur and the file is lost due to a misconception.
THE AGENTS need to locate and recover the file to help prevent the war. 0

Two spies try to carry out a deal but it turns out they are infiltrated by a third spy who isn’t the right one

Target audience - late teens to adult because I think most other films of this genre are aimed at this age range.

Characters Russian spy male 30+ Mr AG , businessman eating lunch also 30+ Mr EN , 30+ British male  Mr T

3-act structure -
Act 1 - Mr AG walks on to park bench, meanwhile Mr T speaking on the phone, then the guy on the phone says get to the park to commence the exchange.

Act 2  - Mr AG tries to exchange with Mr EN. Mr EN is eating his lunch. Eventually Mr AG and Mr EN seal the deal. Mr T comes on the scene and the park is empty.

Act 3 - Then Mr AG meets Mr T and then Mr AG says who are you and then says I just gave it to Mr T. Mr T says I’m Mr T. Then they both run off to get Mr EN

Audio - The film will be a silent movie with a backing track which will represent what’s happening on the screen for example when the characters are walking to the bench there’s a cheerful lighthearted track and when the characters find out they gave the package to the wrong agent the track will be darker and more mysterious. I will create this track on Garage Band which is copyright free.

The speech will be represented on title cards. I think this is a good idea because it will give it a unique style. The other reason I decided to make a silent movies is because all the major characters have face masks on and it will be hard to distinguish which character is speaking when.

Location - Park benches, and a road in Bath
